It had been a long week. Classes had started and students could be rough. Phoenix had wandered over to the College of Manipulation to visit some colleagues. Having the ability to manipulate fire himself, the man had a few good friends here.
Having visited his friends after classes ended for the day, Phoenix was left to wander the south west part of campus at night. It wasn't often he had the chance to visit these buildings. So early in the semester, Phoenix didn't have much paperwork to do, so he didn't need to be home anytime soon. Not that he had much paperwork teaching practical classes in the first place. Still, lesson plans had to be done at some point.
After some strolling, Phoenix got to the part of the College of Kinesis and ESP building that had more general classes, where there weren't specialized practice rooms. Just normal classrooms for general education requirements. It was boring, really. Nonetheless, Phoenix glanced in all the rooms, thinking about how different it was just across campus. He came to an art room that still had the lights on. Everyone else had left the building except for a night class here and there. There wasn't a class going on here, though. No, there was just a man in there. Phoenix assumed it was the instructor, though he looked pretty young. It couldn't be that professor everyone was gossiping about, could it? Looking closer, Phoenix knew it had to be. He only the man's reputation second-hand since he had been in Australia for the majority of his run in the supervillain business. 'Business'. What rubbish was that? Back in Phoenix's day, being a superhero was genuine. Must be different here in America.
Being inside, Phoenix had to be careful with his wings--the things were enormous with a wingspan six times his height. He wasn't inside too often, so it wasn't too much of an issue. But these halls simply weren't built for him. He even had special shirts because of the things, otherwise he would have to go around shirtless and that just wasn't professional. Phoenix didn't bother trying to get through the door just yet, leaning on the frame with his wings outside the art room instead. "I'd be like a hornet in a bottle if I was stuck in a classroom this late." There was no reason to be rude to the man; if the rumors were true, he had been a fake villain, just something for the cameras. Sure, it was a disgrace to the super community, but it wasn't pure evil. |

▼ hijacked, lost track, light fades another day left long shadows lure you in This first week of classes had gone about as well as Erik had expected. Many of the professors either didn't trust him or held grudges from past fights, many of his students clearly weren't comfortable with his appearance, and he didn't know anyone well enough to ask if what he was seeing was a fear or reality. But no one had passed out or died yet, so he had that going for him. He hadn't realized quite how much time there was between between classes when, unless he situated himself someplace incredibly crowded like the dining hall, he was on his own. Before Erik's powers first manifested, this wouldn't have been a problem, but now isolation came with some dangerous backlash. Although other people's fears had become an everyday experience for him, experiencing his own was a different story altogether. And that's why Professor Featherduster was hanging out with him today. The pet raven had been one of the few things that kept Erik sane after leaving the fake villainy business, so he could forgive her when she was occasionally an annoying ass and stole his pencils. "Damn everything, Dusty, can't you just be satisfied with one? Where are you even hiding them?" he chuckled as he gently tugged back on the third pencil she had attempted to snatch from his hand this evening. He'd never finish his drawing of faceless people at this rate. Erik heard the sloshing footsteps before the sound of a deep, accented voice reached his ears. Glancing up, he saw a tall man who, aside from his notable height and impressive muscle mass, seemed quite ordinary by Erik's standards. "Ah, yes, the life of the reclusive night owl isn't for everyone," Erik lightly replied with a smile to the newcomer, "Though I bet I'd be going a bit insane if I was obligated to stay cooped up here... And, sorry, I'm not so great with faces; do you teach here, too?" After all, sometimes the faces which existed in reality and and the faces which he could perceive were very very different. ooc: 'dat eyelash detail also, do not judge my 2AM reply, it is forbidden 8l

Nice bird. Phoenix walked into the room, careful of his wings. "Yeah, I teach flight across campus, just visitin' some mates tonight." Phoenix made his way to the desk, interested in what the man was sketching. 'Dusty' also caught his attention. It was a cute thing that, if Phoenix wasn't mistaken, was very interested in his very large wings.
"The name's Phoenix," He held out his hand with a friendly grin. It was always nice to meet new people, and there were certainly some interesting types in this place. The powers alone were worth looking into--I mean, there was someone who could walk through walls! There was rarely a dull day. |

▼ hijacked, lost track, light fades another day left long shadows lure you in Dusty seemed quite interested in the soggy stranger. Although wary, her head flicked from side to side, and she even seemed to lose interest in snatching Erik's pencil. Erik didn't think much of it; her attention was stollen by the most random things sometimes. Erik put down his pencil by his drawing as the man approached his desk. The sketch portrayed three individuals with the identifying features of their faces glazed over by skin. A group of his students must have been watching an episode of something or sharing some sort of horror story amongst each other before coming to his class earlier today, because he genuinely couldn't tell them apart. What was even more irritating was the fact that, without mouths, he couldn't hear a damn word they were trying to tell him. Naturally they wanted to know why he had to ask someone else in the class to repeat everything they said, so this picture, drawn with sharp lines and bold shadows, was his way of explaining. "Oh, really?" he spoke in an entirely genuine tone, as if he was honestly interested and honestly would not have guessed that Phoenix was the flight professor here, "Flight seems like a really fun gift; definitely near the top of my list if I had to pick one.""It's nice to meet you, Phoenix," he responded with a calm smile as he stood up. Before firmly grasping the extended hand, Erik slipped a black leather glove over his own right hand. No need to turn a simple handshake into a fiasco. "I'm Erik. I teach some kinesis and ESP classes, and, clearly, art." He motioned his hand vaguely to point out the room they were in, then pointed his thumb at the raven on the desk, "This birdbrain's name is Dusty. She's the most adorable pain in the butt you'll ever meet. If you have anything that's shiny and valuable, don't let her see it." As if to prove his point, the avian hopped back over to the drawing and picked up Erik's pencil in her beak, twirling it around with her tongue and periodically grasping the glossy wood with one of her feet. Erik didn't even try getting it back right away; he knew a lost cause when he saw one. ooc: DO YOU LIKE MY NEW HOVER PIC I THINK ERIK MIGHT RLY LIKE ANIMALS
