Sitting with her back against a tree, Riley gazed out over Bay Liu. It had been a long week so far. Classes had been hellish at best, but today she had most of the day free. And what better way to spend her day off than relaxing by the lake? Though 'relaxing' was a relative term; Riley's favorite way to relieve stress was a good workout. Having done several laps around Bay Liu, she had decided to take a breather and had sat down to rest.
The sound of conversation caught her attention, and Riley glanced over to see a boy and a girl standing nearby. She couldn't make out the words but it was clear from their body language and tone that the boy was giving her unwanted attention, and Riley grimaced. She stood and walked over as casually as she could, nearing them in time to hear the boy say, "...and with a body like that, I'm sure you'll look great in a swimsuit. What do you say? Friday, the pool at the wellness center?"
Riley did not give the girl time to answer. Her fist connected with the side of the boy's head, sending him sprawling to the ground from the unexpected punch. He looked up, shocked and angered, but Riley was looking at the girl he had been flirting with. "Hope that asshole didn't bother you too much," she grunted, glancing down at the boy, who was still on the ground, propped on his elbows and glaring in indignation. She paused, continuing to examine the girl. She was really quite attractive, if Riley did say so herself.
"He's not wrong about the swimsuit, though." She grinned confidently, revealing the gap in her front teeth.

Relaxation was for other people. While many students milled around the lake, taking advantage of the last vestige of summer and the corresponding warm weather, Cim had come here with a very distinct purpose in mind. She chose a relatively empty stretch of shore and stood there, gazing onto the shimmering blue expanse.Directly confronted by the sheer size of the lake, Cim was forced to reconsider her approach. A few days ago, she’d stumbled upon the thought experiment of whether or now the electricity under her control was actually the same as what other people encountered. After all, the uses and applications of real world electricity seemed to be more varied than what Cim could accomplish. Thus, lacking the scientific knowledge necessary to run any tests in her room, Cim was left with the hands on approach.All things considered, the lake was a safe place for her to test the effects of her power on water. About to shoot a bit of electricity into the lake’s depth, Cim was rudely interrupted. In the past, her primary strategy for dealing with unwanted boys involved ignoring them, which she tried. Unfortunately, the boy’s chatter and invasive body language made it impossible for her to concentrate.“Will you go away,” she said, levelling the boy an annoyed glance. The boy probably got that sort of reaction, as he barreled without a second glance, effectively ignoring Cim while at the same time ogling her body. Cim was about to take drastic measures, namely, walking away, when a fist flew out of nowhere, knocking the boy to the ground.Cim raised her eyebrows, taking in her apparent rescuer.“Thanks, I guess.”Punching the guy seemed like a pretty extreme reaction, but Cim had to admit that it worked. Definitely something to keep in mind for the future.As far as hometowns went, Cim’s wasn’t exactly conservative, but it was small enough that she’d never been confronted with flirting girls before. While not exactly upsetting, this flirtation left her with the same uncomfortable feeling as it did coming from boys. Cim frowned.“I’d really rather not,” she said through gritted teeth. What was wrong with these people?
