listen to the color of your dream. Zeph wasn't even angry that a super-villainess had attacked NYC with an army of flying monkey mutants and broke his arm. He wasn't even mad that a bit of friendly fire had probably given him a skull fracture from a flute. He was, however, pissed off at the human race, since not one person--NOT ONE--had yet thought to bring him his cellphone charger. Sure, his injuries were far from lethal, but at this rate he was probably going to die from boredom. And he didn't even get to keep a pet monkey mutant. Today was just disappointing all around. It took a while for the doctors to patch him up since there was an influx of patients with more serious conditions. While he waited, he had taken to looking over the short video footage clips he had copied onto his phones and flying the two robotic bees which hadn't been crushed in the 5th avenue fiasco around the hallways of the hospital just to freak people out. Suffice to say, his various electronics were already low on power before getting the cast on his arm and bandages around his head. The confiscation of his robotic bees by an irritated nurse didn't help the situation, either... The doctors had to keep him there a while longer for x-rays of his skull. Although he'd probably be let out sometime today or early tomorrow, without much to entertain himself with, the hours of waiting seemed like they would drag on forever. There were plenty of electronics lying around, but most of them were either important medical equipment that his basic morality wouldn't let him touch or phones that were being being used to contact loved ones--conversations he couldn't even listen to since he didn't have his earbuds. Groaning in frustration, Zeph let his head fall back on the pillow of the bed he was lying in, then immediately cringed as the light impact caused a twinge of pain from his forehead. "Today suuucks," he muttered to himself. However, his eyes lit up as he sensed a familiar signal. To Zeph, what electronics someone was carrying were just as much of a person's identity as their clothes or hair style, so recognition of his brother was instantaneous. The words "HARK, ALL YE WHO ENTER HERE MUST BRING A SACRIFICE OF TACOS, MY CELLPHONE CHARGER, OR ANY FORM OF ELECTRONIC ENTERTAINMENT." Appeared on Eurus's cell phone screen, followed by a vibration as if he had gotten a text message. After a minute, the words "ALSO, I'M IN ROOM 275" were tacked onto the end. |

Upon hearing word of his brother's injuries sustained at the Fifth Avenue Parade, Eurus had immediately set out for the hospital. It figured that of all the students and teachers who were assigned to be security for the parade, his brother would be the one who was most seriously injured. It seemed as though poor Zeph couldn't catch a break. At least it hadn't been the villains who had attacked their family, though. He didn't know much about what had happened, but he did know it had been some woman with a snake, and no such villain had attacked them twelve years ago.
For perhaps the fifth time since he had left his dorm, Eurus checked his pockets to make sure he hadn't dropped anything. Earbuds, his phone, his ipod, his wallet... good, it was all here. He had even managed to go to Zephyr's dorm room and grab his brother's phone charger before leaving campus. He knew his brother well enough to realize he would be needing it, especially if his hospital stay was an overnight affair.
Now, in the waiting room of the hospital, Eurus glanced around nervously. The place was packed, and he could only assume that most of the people here were real and not illusions from his visions. He carefully made his way through the crowd until he reached the line leading up to the front desk. As he waited for his turn, his phone vibrated, and he grabbed it out of his pocket and looked down at the message.
Immediately he knew the text, if it could be called that, was from his brother. Who else would ask for those three things in particular? Eurus was about to pocket his phone when it vibrated again. He glanced at it worriedly, wondering what else Zephyr could possibly want, only to see his brother had given him the room number. Eurus quickly stepped out of line and made a beeline for room 275. After a moment's hesitation, he turned the doorknob and entered the room.
He stared at his brother for a moment, taking in his bandaged head and arm, before shuffling to the side of the bed. "I didn't bring tacos," Eurus said, sounding sincerely apologetic, "but I brought your charger. And you can use my phone and my ipod until yours is charged." He fumbled in his pockets for the devices and placed them on the Zephyr's bedside table along with a set of earbuds.
Eurus' hesitated a moment longer before leaning down and hugging his brother. Seeing Zephyr in the hospital again, as he had been twelve years ago, was too much for Eurus and he started to cry. Quickly he pulled away from Zeph to wipe at the tears that continued to roll down his cheeks. "What happened?" He mumbled, rubbing at his nose with his sleeve and knocking his glasses askew in the process. "All they told me was that some woman with a snake attacked the parade..."

listen to the color of your dream. This was far from the first time that Zeph had been in the hospital. After being attacked over a decade ago, he had developed both a tendency to act before he thought and a disregard for his own physical wellbeing. Bruises and broken bones weren't something that was new to him. Still, those had all been caused by his own recklessness, and it hadn't taken long to get him patched up. Those days were dominated by his mothers' scoldings and his own whining, insincere apologies. Today was a little different, and a little more familiar than Zeph cared to acknowledge. His brother was the only one who came into the room, wearing a familiar worried expression. Zeph gave a reassuring smile like he always did, but Eurus of all people would know that his smile didn't always equate to happiness. "Heyy, nice t' finally see a friendly face!" he greeted as he pushed himself up to a sitting position, "Turns out if ya' cause enough of a ruckus they stick ya' in your own room. Pretty cool, yeah?" Zeph had gotten pretty good (in his own less-than-humble opinion) about giving his twin subtle hints about what was real and what wasn't. Despite knowing full well Eurus had them, Zeph's eyes lit up when his brother handed over his phone and ipod. With his good arm, he plugged in the earbuds and put one of them in one of his ears without a hint of hesitation. He had been wanting to listen in on the conversations going on around them for what seemed like ages now. It probably just sounded like a garbled mess of scrambled words to most people, but listening to three conversations at once had never struck Zeph as something particularly special. "Hey, don't worry 'bout somethin' like that; you're not a psychic," Zeph replied with a grin to Eurus's apology about the lack of tacos, "Truth be told, I wasn't even expectin' you to think to fetch my charger. Why the hell haven't you been nominated for sainthood yet?"A brief moment later, he was being hugged. When he heard his brother start to cry, his smile faltered and his wall of carefree confidence cracked. This really was a lot like that time all those year ago, wasn't it... "Sorry." he mumbled with more sincerity than before, returning the hug with his good arm as he spoke, "I'll heal, though. I'll be out of here super quick. Promise." He knew it hurt Eurus to see him in situations like this, but as much as he hated hurting his brother, he knew he probably wasn't going to change anytime soon. "They didn't tell ya anything?" Zeph asked with a hint of surprise in his voice. He had a tendency to overestimate how informed the average person was. "Yeh, Serpenta showed up with a whole fuckin' army of flyin' mutant monkey-lookin' things. It was like some twisted Wizard of Oz rip-off. We were soooo unprepared, but really, who the hell plans for flying monkeys? Wish I coulda' kept one, though. Those freaks were super cool." Pulling up a picture of the villainess on his twin's phone from the internet, he turned the screen around so he could see, "It's weird, though, I thought she got outed as a fake sponsor actress a few years back, but a lot of that was goin' on, so I didn't look in to it... Oh, right, and Eva hit me with a flute." At that last statement, he jokingly pouted a little and pointed to the bandage around his head. |

Despite the wetness in his eyes, Eurus couldn't help but smile in appreciation of his twin's clever and subtle way of letting him know they were alone. He relaxed slightly as some of the fears that crept into his mind dissolved. This was good; this was normal. He had been afraid his brother might have been in some catatonic state, unable to talk or move. But seeing Zephyr now, plugging in the earbuds and placing one in his ear, Eurus knew that his twin was going to be okay.
As Zephyr mentioned sainthood, he said, "A saint would've gotten you the tacos too," and though his tone was serious, he was still smiling. However, his grin soon faltered as his brother told him the story and showed him the picture of Serpenta. "Flying monkeys?" He repeated, still looking at the picture on the phone. "Zeph... you can't just... have a flying monkey," Eurus mumbled, tearing his gaze away from the cell phones bright screen to look at his twin with a slight frown. "Where would you keep it...?"
However inconvenient his brother's choice in pets may have been, Serpenta seemed like more of an issue. Eurus looked back at the picture again, nodding. "Yeah, I think I remember that. So she had a bunch of flying monkeys? Weird. I wonder where she got them." He paused as Zephyr pointed to his bandaged head. "She needs to be more careful," he said quietly, though he didn't comment on it beyond giving his twin's head a worried glance.
Eurus retreated a bit away, pulling a chair from the corner of the room closer to Zephyr's bed and settling on it. He was quiet for a while, leaving Zephyr to his own devices while he himself considered what his brother had told him about the attack on the parade. "It's... weird," he finally said, leaning forwards with his chin in his hand. His brows were furrowed as he stared across the room, his gaze not really focusing on anything in particular. "Where would a fake villain get... you know, real villain stuff? Like flying monkey minions? And why attack the parade suddenly? Seems like a good way to draw unwanted attention and get caught, doesn't it?"

listen to the color of your dream. Zeph was glad that he could still make his brother smile at least a little bit. Sure, the situation wasn't great, but at least he and the other students (at least, as far as he was aware) had come out of it relatively okay. Not everyone was so lucky; from the earbuds his brother had given him, he could hear distraught wailing from the mother of one of the people who had been carried away by the freak-monkeys. Still, although the brightness in his eyes may have flickered for a moment, Zeph maintained his smile. "Pssh, I'd still vote for ya," he remarked as Eurus continued to insist that he didn't have what it takes for sainthood because of tacos. Actually, it was a pretty funny mental image, wasn't it? Zeph snickered a bit before explaining what he was thinking that was so entertaining: "Can you imagine that, though? Some saint just showin' up in a fast food joint bein' all 'I would like one taco, please. Be sure to make it well; it is for someone in a hospital. No, no, he'll be fine, he just felt like having a taco. Please stop laughing, this is a divine quest.' " Somehow he managed to maintain a slightly deeper, serious tone long enough to do his little impersonation, but his laughter quickly bubbled to the surface when he was done. Of course Eurus wasn't impressed by his idea of having a flying mutant monkey as a pet. He wasn't impressed by that time when he unwittingly adopted a panther who wasn't really a panther that one time, either. There was always some problem or other that he harped on, like "Do you even know where it came from? What if it's violent or trained to attack people?" or "Zeph, you know that could literally kill you, right?" Jeez, his twin was such a worrywart sometimes. "Aw c'mon, if Serpenta can keep a whole army of 'em without no one noticin' I'm pretty damn sure I could handle one," he retorted, not being entirely serious since he knew his chances of even getting his hands on a flying monkey at this point were slim to none, "Hmm, I'd probably keep 'im in that warehouse I've been keepin' some of my projects in: plenty o' space, no pryin' eyes.""Idunno where she got 'em or kept 'em, though. An' they just sorta' flew away when we caught 'er. My only guess'd be portals or somethin' whacky like that," he replied, conveniently neglecting to mention the fact that some people were taken by those monkeys. Zeph didn't want to deal with a heavy conversation right now. Zeph shrugged nonchalantly when Eurus whispered his disapproval of the flying flute injury, "That's just how Eva is. Plus, it's nothin' serious."While Eurus got a chair, Zeph worked on single-handedly (literally) getting his phone plugged into his charger and plugging that into an outlet by the bed. He rambled a bit about the attack for a bit while he listened to some music and various phone conversations going on through Eurus's ipod, not really hearing anything of immediate interest. "Heiko was really great, he was shootin' shadow bolts everywhere and was one of the only ones who got a hit on 'er. I mean, he wasn't s'posed to be attackin', but the offensive team wasn't gettin' any shit done other than Wil riding flying monkeys around which I'm pissed as hell that I didn't get to do by the way. Us defenders got stuck playin' whack-a-monkey an' herdin' away idiots who're too dumb t' get out've the fuckin' road. Y'know, it blows the mind how damn useless folks when ya put 'em all together, but afterwards I'll bet anything they blame us for everything that went wrong just 'cuz we got powers." Humans could be ungrateful bastards sometimes. The online forums were already beginning to plant the seeds of debate. "You're tellin' me..." Zeph huffed when Eurus mentioned how weird this was, "If I had t'guess, she either wasn't a fake from the start, she's workin' with a real super-villain partner, or she developed powers like in some comic book bullshit backstory. I still don't know where those monkeys came from though, like, where is there even room to keep 'em hidden? The sewers? There's so many better ways to attack than from above if that's where they were; it makes no fuckin' sense. As for the parade, I'm pretty sure she wanted the attention. Wrath of a woman scorned, y'know? I'm just not sure if she wanted t' make herself look powerful or t' make all us look weak since she didn't do much talkin'." Actually, Zeph couldn't remember her saying anything coherent at all except-- "You're in the way."He didn't want to think about those words. The corners of his mouth twitched ever so slightly as his gaze flicked to the screen of Eurus's phone. How about seeing how accurately the news reporters were getting the story? Yeah, that seemed like a good idea. Good plan. The screen began to change as Zeph navigated around without a single touch.
