Danny had been walking about the central campus for nearly an hour now, earphones jammed and set to full blast, right hand clenching and un-clenching around a rubber stress ball while his right one deftly manipulated his phone's touch screen. Those who had some form of acquaintance with the freshman (Danny hadn't really made any friends here so far) would expect the serious and perpetually focused student to be studying his latest assignment, or perhaps engaging in a debate on the complexities of the superhero culture.
"Why do cats act like that around laser pointers anyway?" Danny mumbled to himself.
Crazy antics of felines posted on the web; Daniel's fatal flaw. Who would have guessed?
The blonde was so engaged with his phone that he didn't even notice the fact that there was somebody else in his path until he bumped into them. With his metal arm. Going at a fairly brisk pace too.
"Whoops my bad there- so sorry!" Danny began apologizing immediately. Had he dropped his phone? He had dropped his phone hadn't he? Damn it.

It certainly was a nice day for a stroll. Adey had gotten out of class early that day so she figured a walk around central campus would be nice. Vireximus was such a beautiful campus; it was hard to believe that something like this was so close to New York City, the concrete jungle. It was a bit like Central Park — a green, verdant gem in the midst of a gray wonderland.
Her phone was in hand and earbuds in...ears, of course, and she was listening to her favorite Pandora station when suddenly she found herself crashing to the ground, and a painful bump on her forehead. The girl hadn't noticed what exactly had happened until she gathered her bearings and looked up at the person standing above her.
A blonde boy with a metal arm — that's probably what she had hit her head on. Well, this was sufficiently embarrassing. Her cheeks flushed as she wrapped her headphone cords up around her phone, pushing herself back up after she made sure she wasn't actually hurt.
"No worries," she said, wincing when she attempted to poke the forming bruise on her forehead. "I-I wasn't paying attention to where I was walking, and..."
She let her sentence trail off, not quite sure where she was going with it.

He really wasn't one for sweating the details too much, accidents happened and he knew that more than anybody. Kicking yourself about them was an exercise in stupidity- as half a dozen therapists had tried to tell Danny. And he still went ahead and did it anyway, caving in to that guilty sinking feeling somewhere in his abdomen all too easily. But really, how could he not? He had knocked her head over heels -yes her, he had knocked over a girl in his boorishness- and she had obviously hurt herself.
"No, no it was all my fault- I hope you're not hurt too badly." Danny told her earnestly. She had been wincing while prodding her forehead, but it couldn't be anything worse than a mild bruise right? Stupid metal arm.
"It's just that I was too focused on my phone and I wasn't looking where I was going..." Danny trailed off as he realized that his phone, having flown off in the collision, was nowhere in his sights.
"Err, I don't suppose you saw where my phone flew off to did you?" he asked with no small measure of awkwardness.

The boy seemed awfully apologetic, and Adey felt bad. It wasn't his fault that she wasn't watching where she was going...she supposed it was a case of two people just not paying attention and bumping in to one another. Unfortunately, this bumping involved Adey's forehead and a hard piece of metal.
Dusting off her pants and stuffing her phone back in her pocket, she looked up at the boy she'd bumped in to. He wasn't terribly tall, but he was a lot taller than her, so she had to crane her neck back a little to look at him. An awkward silence settled between them until the boy spoke up again.
"Oh, um...no, I didn't," she said apologetically, and started to look around, turning her head this way and that. The ground around them was completely clear. How could a phone just disappear in to thin air? It was positively abnormal.

His phone had disappeared almost supernaturally. Of course it had. If Danny was feeling particularly mean he would have insisted for the girl to help him find his phone, or simply just ignored her for favor of holding a more extensive search for the gadget. But he didn't, because he had an over efficient conscience and was generally a nice guy. It was, Danny reflected not for the first time, the root of most of his problems.
Running a hand wearily through his hair Danny took another glance through the area; how far could it have fallen anyway? Maybe he could just ring it up with somebody's phone or something? "Uhm, hey. My name's Danny Donnovan." the freshman introduced himself extending his right, robotic, hand forward.
"I was kind of wondering if I could use your phone for just a sec to call my own? It'll save me a ton of trouble, please?"

Now that Adey felt sufficiently awkward, she stood there as the boy ran his hand through his hair, obviously having some kind of mental conversation with himself. What should she do? She felt bad about his phone being missing but she also didn't want to stand around and do nothing.
When he spoke to her again, he introduced himself by stating his name and extending his robotic hand for a shake. She had a little trepidation about shaking his robotic arm just because she'd never touched a robotic arm before but it would be rude to deny his introduction, after all.
"I'm Adey Drake," she said with a little bit of a smile, shaking the outstretched hand. "It's nice to meet you."
Then he asked if she could help him find his phone by simply calling it. Nodding emphatically, the girl held her hand up, showing him the phone she'd just been listening to moments ago before she had bumped into the boy she was talking to now.
"Oh of course!" she said, unlocking the device. She handed it to him and watched as he typed in his number...and a few moments later she heard a very faint ringtone.
"Is that it?" she cried excitedly, looking around to try and discern where the noise came from.

In his never ending crusade to avoid the ostentatious Danny had kept a simple, soft ringtone that was never set too loud. Needless to say it was coming back to bite him now, with the ringtone teasingly flitting just outside of his range of hearing. He knew the phone was near but where...
Danny gave a quick glance over to Adey, who seemed to hear it well enough. Superhuman- Danny had to remind himself; the campus was teeming with people who possessed all sorts of unique abilities and he himself was no exception. Maybe she had a better sense of hearing than him? At the very least she looked like she had a better idea of where his phone currently lay. Danny wondered if she was one of those people who would mind if he asked for her help- for a university full of heroes in the making there was a surprisingly large amount of them. Then again, she seemed to be a pretty nice person- she had agreed to help him ring up his phone readily enough and bore a pretty friendly aura for somebody who had been knocked over by him.
"Yup that's it!" he replied to Adey's inquiry, handing her phone back to her, with the call still ongoing.
"Now where is it coming from..." Danny muttered to himself as he began looking around for his own phone.
The portal maker decided that he really couldn't impose himself on Adey any more than he already had; he would have to pull his own weight and locate the phone- lousy ringtone be damned. He just hoped that he would find it soon.

When he agreed that it was his phone, Adey didn't realize he couldn't actually hear the ringtone like she could. It was pretty quiet, so maybe his ears couldn't pick it up. She fully understood that that was the case, however, when he didn't know where it was. Even though it was quiet, the girl could easily pick up where the phone was.
"Here, follow me!" she said, her little frame moving off in one direction as she scanned the area. Her eyesight wasn't as keen as her hearing, but she could tell that they were getting closer. The ringtone was getting louder, and then it stopped. Grabbing her phone she dialed the number again, and the ringtone started up once more.
After a few minutes of slinking around she saw a metallic shine from a patch of grass and she ducked down, squatting near the ground to pick up the phone. It certainly was his, since the ringtone was coming from it and her number was flashing on the screen.
"Here ya go!" she said cheerfully, feeling a little less afraid and more confident now that she'd successfully retrieved the phone. Handing Danny the object, she smiled sweetly up at him. "It flew pretty far!"
