It was clear that Adey was a little bit nervous. She sat anxiously outside of the practice room, waiting for her (hopeful) friend and superior to show up. The agenda for the day was voice lessons, as Adelinda was a member of the choir club but in all reality, wasn't that great of a singer and was too shy to sing loud enough for anyone to hear that. Katie Pemberton, the club's president, just wouldn't have that. She was kind of a hard person to get close to, or so it seemed, but Adey looked up to her immensely. She was older than her, she was an amazing singer, she had a lot of talents, she was really pretty...the girl could go on forever. If Adey had a quote-un-quote "idol" it would be Ms. Katie Pemberton. So she waited, sitting in the chair where he feet barely touched the ground, swinging her legs back and forth a little — both to give her something to do and a somewhat nervous tic. Some people wrung their hands, some people paced. Adey just swung her legs on a chair. Grabbing the bottle of water she brought with to keep her vocal cords and throat from getting dry, she took a sip, then took a deep breath. There was no need to be nervous. Katie had suggested these lessons from the get go — she obviously doesn't hate you, Adey. But it was hard to be so confident, especially when shrimpy, homely Adey was compared to lithe, gorgeous Katie. KATIE PEMBERTON

“didn't you go in yet?” when katie pemberton arrived she was in no doubt surprised by an waiting, fidgeting adelinda. trotting by, a few minutes later than she'd organised the time, katie's still expectantly looked on at the choir member. trust someone not to take the intuitive; katherine pemberton was sighing before she'd entered the room.
katie had been the one to schedule this private singing lesson and she'd insisted out of necessity; what she'd already dismissed as a disappointing beginning would not damper the rest of this session. as freshman and a new member to the choir club adelinda was someone katie felt something protective over. a sweet personality in the choir, her voice on the other hand was lacking. or, rather, katie had assumed it would be so as she could hardly hear it otherwise.
and while katie would hold even inexperience against someone she supposed she had to be hesitant as the president of choir club. unfortunately, everyone was new to things at some point and not everyone had the same chance at such a high quality vocal training as she had - something katie would resolutely state to her fellow members with little care of how smug it would come off as. with the other's pleasant personality, and with what she wanted to emphasise was the responsibility of leading a group of singers, she'd offered to share a few of her vocal techniques with the freshman. really, she'd insisted but katie wouldn't see why someone would turn the opportunity down.
passing by adelinda with little other acknowledgement she pushed the doors opened herself. as per usual her movement was slightly limited by a heavy looking shoulder-bag on one shoulder, “there's no need to wait out there, adelinda.” katie addressed her but otherwise didn't look back or hold the door open. nor did she seem interested in checking whether the room was free or occupied, immediately settling down her bag on a desk at the wrong but it seemed for once she had an excuse for her presumptuousness.
“i booked this room for a whole hour,” opening her back she started look through, leaning forward in her heels to get a good look about what was in bag she was shuffling through, “it was no problem, obviously. i just said it was for choir business.” and it was, wasn't it?
making a sound of approval as she found what she was looking for katie took out a planner, leaving her bag and its contents spilling out on the table as she stepped through the wall. while she flipped through the diary she took in her surroundings. it didn't seem to appease katie's standards but it'd have to do. as a second-thought she asked absent-mindedly above the sound of page flicking, “oh, i suppose i should ask how you are adelinda. day been nice?”

Adey felt a little silly that she hadn't gone in the room yet, but she didn't know what Katie had in store. She knew that if she would've been waiting inside, she probably would have screwed up too. With a little sigh she slid off the chair and followed Katie into the room. It was now that she got very nervous. It was just the two of them in this room and Adey was going to have to sing. She didn't mind singing in her dorm room (when she was alone, or unless she didn't know Wil was there) or when she was all by herself, but singing in front of others was harder. Unfortunately, she didn't find that out until after she joined choir club. And she liked being in choir! The people were nice and she had a good time, she just wasn't a very strong singer. Katie, however, was obviously one of the strongest, if not THE strongest voices in the group. She always made sure to remind everyone of her training, and Adey suddenly felt even more nervous and yet privileged at the same time. Privileged that Katie would take time out of her schedule to help her. Katie began to talk, and Adey listened dutifully. She hoped they had enough stuff to do for an hour, but she didn't know what sort of exercises or things Katie had planned for the lesson. She would just listen, wait, and perform when she had to. If it was only that easy. "Oh, my day's been okay," she said, unable to stop herself from fidgeting nervously. "Kind of ordinary...how is yours?" KATIE PEMBERTON

a wary eye returned to adelinda and katie watched the other's fidgeting with judging eyes. the reply was satisfying, she supposed she could let that pass as an adequate answer, but the habits not so much. katie only spoke back once she found the page she had being looking for. the triumphant hum she made was the only break in her otherwise harsh beginning, “just ordinary?”
as she set the diary down on the table katie was quick to talk the chance to talk about her day, “similarly average, but i got some important work done.” as she stated it katie's pride glowed off her, “in fact, i'm organising something very important indeed.” it obviously wasn't long before she arrived back to regarding adelinda warily. taking one glimpse back down to the planner she marched towards the other, narrowing the between them. she sized adelinda up before stating plainly, “you can't sing if you're nervous, you know.”
an exhausted sigh followed from katie. lifting a hand on her hip, she looked on the other expectantly, “are you normally this nervous when singing?” and while her tone was blunt and matter-as-fact as ever katie hadn't intended it to be so forthright a question. her later words were probably more comforting in that they betrayed at least some sympathy she had for adelinda's skittish temperament then, “relax. i'm not going to ask you to sing right now.”
moving back to her bag apparently katie's clarification was only going to come after she'd rummaged through it again.
“you remember some of the warm-ups we've done in choir?” with a water bottle in hand katie twisted the lid, uninterested in maintaining eye contact as she went over her plan, “we could start with those. there are some things that may help calm you down too.” the emphasis on may sounding somewhat inconvenienced, “i say may, though.” she shrugged before drinking.

Adelinda liked Katie and looked up to her a lot, but the older girl simply made her so nervous. It was hard not to be! Katie exuded confidence, and Adelinda was a bit awkward and shy and not the best at really anything. Katie made it known that she was a good singer and Adelinda knew that all came down to her confidence...but it was hard to muster it up. Still, when Katie looked at her and asked if she was always so nervous, a sad little pang came over her heart. It was obvious that she was practically quivering, and she didn't want to seem weak in front of someone she looked up to. Trying hard to steel herself and become more confident, she squeezed her eyes shut to concentrate (and maybe to force down a few reflexive tears that sprung to the corners of her eyes). "No!" she said. "I'm not going to be nervous." While that intended to be an inner monologue, she somehow managed to say it out loud. Blushing profusely she covered her face with her hands, hoping that she'd sink into the floor and never return. She probably looked like such a loser in front of someone like Katie, who was one of the coolest people she knew. A resigned nod was all she could do when Katie mentioned the choir warm ups. She remembered them and she could do them, though this lesson was probably already shot due to the fact that the girl was mortified...and that didn't make Adey feel any better. KATIE PEMBERTON
