Just an hour ago Karima had been sitting in her room, praying to whatever gods her mother wouldn't burst in and demand something again. This past week was all interviews, all press meetings, and no time to think. Although she was used to it, it took a toll on her. She had just finished charging up her heart and getting ready for her first day when her mother, lo and behold, burst in without knocking.
"Here, you'll need these." She shoved papers into Karima's unsuspecting arms and left without explanation. Upon further inspection, Karima noticed the forms were filled out already with her signature forged. 'Career Paths and Sponsorships' the top of it read, after skimming it her stomach lurched and she sat down slowly on her bed. Her mother had set her up for a career meeting at the college she would be attending. Even though just the day before she was doing orientation, it all seemed a bit rushed. But that was to be expecting, the sponsorship was rushed, and so was her augmentation.
Now she stood in front of the door, a plaque read "MR. CASEY RADFORD, CAREER ADVISOR". Her palms felt clammy and if her heart didnt have a regulatory pump cycle, it would have been beating erratically. She gingerly knocked twice, too nervous to knock any louder or longer and hoped the meeting would go by quickly.

gosh, casey just wanted to reiterate what a super, super exciting the start of the fall semester it all was, even if the few moments he got finally to himself were spent rearranging his entire office. at the two knocks of the door mr. casey radford, vireximus university's careers advisor, was perched precariously on a desk chair, stretching up to try and fix a poster up on a board with box of pins levitating next to him and the walls totally bare save for a few post-it notes stuck here and there.
was it that time already? removing a tack where he'd kept it in between his lips mouth casey attempted to pin the poster in while checking the time on his wristwatch. the pinning was a little rushed now, excitement filled him and that was saying something for the man who'd started taking to the office with indecisive glee about an hour beforehand.but this was the first student-to-advisor meeting casey was going to have of the year and boy was it a special one.
so for a special he wasted no longer in welcoming her in; gosh, it'd be totally impolite otherwise, right? craning his neck to look at the door - hand still trying to affix the poster up - the handle clicked open with no physical effort on either of their behalf, door swinging open with due pace, “come right on in.” to begin with, casey showed little worry about still being on his chair. instead, his eyes kept trained on karima as the door revealed her, voice giddy and his eyes close to enraptured on her.
remembering his place, casey jerked up a bit, “gosh, you'll have to forgive me,” as he reached for another pin the box levitated closer so he could reach, the use of psychokinesis second-nature, “i'm only half-way through this all; i sure got carried away with renovating, huh?”
as if the near barren off-white walls didn't speak for themselves. casey tore his eyes away from her to try to cram another pin, just to enough to keep it up, and only returned them back to her once he got down from the chair, hand brushing against the suit jacket he'd discarded earlier to roll up his sleeves for the hands-on work. taking another good look at her, he meant to gesture to one of the chairs in front of the desk but had to pause to move a chair over. he looked a little embarrassed but soon enough casey expression grew into something that'd be best described as elated, a big smile on his face.
“but i guess it's not everyday that the careers office gets a visit from a celebrity.”
