One weekend’s worth of preparation had finally paid off. The ramps and quarter pipes had been secured into their positions, and all Eva had to do was let the downhill slope work its magic. As she began to roll forward, she bent her knees and thrust herself upward, catching a railing and sliding down by the stairs. Her wheels struck pavement, and she launched herself toward the first quarter pipe, pumping her legs and building speed.
She felt herself being propelled into the air as the obstacle reached its peak. Gravity brought the movements to a split-second halt, before pulling her back into a descent. Her body twisted around, just in time for her wheels to make contact with the metal prop and continue on with the course. Since today was the Monday after a restful break, this part of the campus was teeming with half-lidded and groggy students, hardly the ideal environment for her antics.
But in her eyes, these bodies were just additional, mobile obstacles to add to her entertainment, and she treated them as such as she skirted through the packs, knocking out coffee and books from their hands. The familiar rush of adrenaline was what she was after, and if this is what it took, then so be it.
The course was nearing its end as she approached the final rail, but she found herself rocketing toward a flock of pigeons by the fountain. The lot of them began to flutter into the sky, but not before Eva was barraged with a flurry of feathers and crazed squawks. She was not mentally prepared for this turn of events, and as she attempted to brake, the girl ended up tripping over her feet and tumbling sideways into the fountain water.

listen to the color of your dream. Zeph was having issues with physics today. Apparently, three RC cars are only just enough to pull someone around on a skateboard. He was going to need to do some serious modifications to get this thing working reliably. Stronger motors, better wheels, and maybe even some rocket thrusters... now there was an addition that had to be put into serious consideration. While completely ignoring the fact that his vehicle was pretty much a pathetic failure at the moment, Zeph decided to ride the thing around campus until the batteries ran out. On flat surfaces, the little engines whined in protest, and the skateboard they were tied to moved along at a steady crawl. Ramps let the thing speed up for a bit, but the little cars just couldn't maintain a good speed while dragging along his weight. Zeph seemed relatively unamused as he rode, with one hand in his pocket and the other holding out his phone for his eyes covered by sunglasses to see. Of course, this failure didn't stop him from playing Ride of the Valkyries for everyone to hear as his "chariot" crawled along. Loud squawking and a splash of pink hair pulled Zeph out of his youtube trance. Among a flurry of feathers, Zeph thought he spotted Eva just before the female in question tumbled into the fountain. Despite the thought that she could be seriously hurt had crossed his mind, that never seemed like a serious possibility. Regardless, he hopped off his skateboard and was at the edge of the water in a heartbeat. "Ey, Eva, that was a fuckin' grand finale," he complimented with a smile, "But nothin's broken is't?" Indeed, an unplanned fall into a stone fountain seemed like a recipe for a cracked rib or two. @toccatina )o) |

The world was suddenly rotated on its side before her eyes were submerged. Her hip caught the rim of the basin, and like a human lever, she pivoted into the fountain water head first. The side of her helmet bonked the stone base while the rest of her body turned and flailed in an attempt to right itself up. Bubbles floated up to the surface as she managed to settle down at the bottom. Her knees and below had managed to stay in the air, since they clung to the edge. Using her legs to steady herself, she curled up out of the water and gasped for air.
A familiar accent reached her ears before her vision could clear up. She flashed a playful smile in the direction of the blonde’s voice. “Besides my pride, I’m all in one piece,” came the reply. “Can’t say I’m in mint condition, though,” she continued, certain there was a bruise forming at her hip.
Grabbing the fountain ledge, she pulled herself onto it and sat down, all too aware of droplets battering the pavement in rhythmic mockery. At least the damn water was out of her eyes. First things first, she wrestled the rollerblades off her feet, along with soaked socks. Her fingers struggled with the clasp of her helmet strap before she tossed the headgear aside. She leaned over slightly and wrung the water out of her hair like a towel. Water and helmet hair were a nasty mix.
She glanced passed the figure before her and noticed a particularly befuddling rig o’er yonder. “The hell is that?” exclaimed Eva, nodding toward the skateboard and more importantly, the trio of RCs. “Please don’t tell me that’s yours,” she added with a snicker. Of course it was his. Who else would throw together so remarkably ambitious yet ridiculously juvenile?

listen to the color of your dream. Her smile and witty retort was reassuring, so the part of Zeph which had been concerned became relaxed. "Pssh, ya don't need pride," he said as he sat down on the fountain's edge and held out an arm to catch her on the off chance she'd slip and fall back in, "It's just a trick t' keep people from enjoyin' themselves. A lack o' wantin' pride means a lack o' guilt n' shame, yeah? And a lack o' them two means a lack o' fun-killin' inhibitions." Ah, yes, basic Zeph!logic prevails yet again. With both hands grasping the inner ledge of the fountain, Zeph leaned back a bit and grinned while a soaking wet Eva began pulling off her skates and helmet. "Plus, it was bloody hilarious t' watch. Totally worth a bruise and some lost pride points." Regardless of if Eva let Zeph stay dry or decided that last comment deserved a push into the fountain, disrespect for his flopped RC chariot was unacceptable! Well, actually it was absolutely acceptable; he thought it was pretty damn hilarious himself, but he still had something to say about it. "Oi, watch your tongue , mate. This," he said, wrapping one arm around Eva's shoulders and motioning the other to the contraption with joking gradure, "Is the RC Rocketboard 1000. She's a glorious piece of machinery that can fly 'cross the ground at least twice as fast as the standard skateboard... or at least she WOULD be able to if I had some trusters installed. She's still got a few bugs I gotta' work out first."
"Actually..." Zeph leaned over and plucked up one of Eva's rollerblades to get a better look at it, running some calculations through his head. Or, rather, though his phone. "If yer interested, I might be able t' speed these up for ya. I mean--" he looked away from the wheeled shoe a moment to shoot a smirk her way, "--it won't help yer steerin' none, but, obstacles aside, they'd be pretty fuckin' badass."@toccatina so laaaate ;A; |

Insert eye roll here. “Write a book, why don’t you?” she laughed, clapping him on the back. Though she had to admit, regret was a buzzkill, which explained why she learned to stop feeling it. The last of the water droplets, after a good deal of wringing, were strained out of her locks, allowing her to shift her attention to her sopping wet clothes. She began to draw heat to her core and let the water evaporate from the fabric.
As she began to dry, she gave him a shove to the side at his little wisecrack, before drawing her attention to the gizmo before them. The “rocketboard”, despite its currently lackluster appearance, captivated her in the sense that she wanted very much to see it in action. “Well, when you work those out, gimme a call,” was her eager response. “You’ll need someone to break their leg in your stead, won’t you?” Projects like this were nothing to sneeze at, requiring a good deal of recklessness and a bit of tenacity. But Zeph, to her surprise, soon shifted his focus to her rollerblades. Her ears perked at the mention of modifying them, and when their incredible potential sunk in, she beamed. “Wait, are you serious?” Her grin widened as she envisioned the two of them racing taxis across the city. The opportunities for adventure were endless, and it took her a moment to snap out of her trance.
“That’d be the shit!” she exclaimed, clasping her hands together in excitement. “We could clear Central Park or maybe take them to the subway tunnels”—forgetting the fact that active trains also occupied the underground—“god, if you could make that happen, consider yourself my favorite person!” Swinging her feet in restlessness, she let her eyes trail up toward the sky in utter enthusiasm.
