Kaylee sighed as she walked toward her dorm. It had been another long day of seemingly endless classes and she was glad that it was finally over. She kept checking the floors as she moved upward to her room, looking for any tall males with tanned skin and long zebra-striped hair.
Why? Because she was avoiding Lily Ellison.
It wasn't his fault; she'd up and kissed him without really thinking about the consequences and now she was exhausting herself by avoiding him. He had been gone for a few days for some reason and those days she could breathe, but after seeing his hair during a class she made sure to double her efforts to keep away from him.
And she didn't want to be away from him! He made her feel warn and nice and safe, which was confusing but so wonderful at the same time. But...no, she couldn't. She just couldn't face him again after that time in his room. As she arrived on her floor she looked down to bring her keys from her bag and as she looked up, she thought her heart would leap right out of her chest.
Lily was waiting for her. At her dorm room door.
Without thinking Kaylee dropped everything (purse and keys included) and sprinted back down the hallway, praying to the spirits above that he hadn't seen her. CODED BY DUCKIE OF GS

| @ @kat Lainer Hall, Room 201. Lainer Hall, 201. Lainer. 201.
It had taken him damn near two weeks to track down that meaningless alphanumerical string, and he hadn’t stopped repeating it since. Meaningless in every way, except for her. Somehow, when he read it or thought it aloud, “Lainer Hall, Room 201” rearranged itself fragment by fragment into “Kaylee Smith”. Then the e’s became two blue eyes, the curve of the S the curve of her throat, the dip of the y, her hair curling gently against her collarbone, and he was staring into her pretty face again.
He shook his head, just in time to catch a flash of sunset orange. Peaches and cream tickled his nose. Flaring his nostrils, he snapped his eyes to the side so fast he thought his retinas might get whiplash. Sure ‘nuff, it had been real—she was real, standing right there down at the end of the hallway. Then she was running, hair whipping behind her like a flame burst to life. Wait. Running? Shit!
“Dag nabbit!” he growled. “Kaylee! Shit.”
His feet must have been moving before his brain caught up to him, because the next time he blinked, he was five doors down and hot on her heels. |

Great! He'd seen her! Kaylee was so close to the stairs that she needed to slow down if she didn't want to trip and fall down them, but she couldn't let him catch up to her. So she continued to run, moving past the stairs to continue throughout the hall. If she could only lose him for a second, she could backtrack to the elevator...
As she turned her head to look behind her, someone in front of her had opened a door. Thankfully she heard it click before she ran right into said door, but the movement slowed her down and within seconds she could feel Lily's body crashing into her own. With a squeak the two flew across the hall and into the opposing wall, with Kaylee's eyes spinning nonstop. But when she was finally able to see, she was looking right up into the male's eyes.
He had her pinned to the ground.
"Let go of me!" she cried out, flailing around in his grasp. But he was much stronger than her and she knew it was futile. But maybe if someone saw her freaking out they'd help her? "I said to let me go or I'll bite you!" Her cheeks were flushed red and her eyes had little tears springing up in the corners, as if she were about to cry. CODED BY DUCKIE OF GS

| @ @kat He hardly noticed when he launched himself at her. When he wrapped his corded arms around her waist, tugged her to his chest, and rolled them to the floor. Of course, he hit it first—even if he was mad at the gal, he wouldn’t hurt her on purpose—but before the smarting had gone out of his shoulder blade, he had her rolled over and pinned her to the ground. It wasn’t hard, not in the least. Just grab, roll, and push. Automatic. Mechanic. Even when she flailed, he was so far gone that it felt like leaves blown against the side of a house in a storm.
“Will you just—! Arrrgh!” Barely stifling a snarl, Lily dropped his head down and rammed his lips onto the girl’s. He let up after a minute, realizing she might bruise and needing air besides. Panting, he stared at her a moment before frowning at his reflection—he looked like some sort of damn wild unbroken horse what needed a rest from running from a cougar. “…Will you stop complainin’ now?” he finally said, glancing away from her face. “A-and put those tears and teeth away. Ain’t no need for that kinda stuff.”
Now that he’d just gone and done it, Lily had no idea what to do next. Sitting up from Kaylee to allow her movement, he almost wished she’d hit him so that he’d have somewhere to go from. Fact was, he’d never kissed a girl in his life, and he didn’t know if he’d done it right or wrong, much less whether or not he was in the right for doing the damn thing in the first place. As he reached up to rub his neck, something smooth and cold brushed his skin, and he brought his hand around to see.
Ah. Right. He’d nearly forgotten. “Here,” he muttered, thrusting the cutesy hairband in Kaylee’s direction. “I reckon this is yours.” |

It came as as more of a shock than anything else when he cut off her rant by placing his mouth onto hers. What was he doing? Was he too afraid she was going to slap him and decided to use his mouth to shut her up instead of his hand? Even though she was apparently mad at him, she couldn't help but melt at the contact.
And she would have kissed him back too, but he was quick about it and in the end she was glad. She didn't want him to see her true emotions...not yet, at least. So when he left her go she shuffled into a sitting position, licking her lips without really thinking much of it. She wanted to say something, to tell him why she had been running, but before she could react he was handing her something she thought she had lost.
"My hairband? You...you kept it all this time?" It had been two weeks, after all. Most men would have thrown it away if they'd found it laying around their room. But he'd kept it so he could give it back to her. A faint smile appeared on her lips as she took the item from his grasp. "Why?" CODED BY DUCKIE OF GS

| @ @kat “Hell iffin’ I know,” Lily grumbled with shrug.
Maybe it had been the right thing to do. Maybe he didn’t believe in throwing things away. Maybe he thought she’d come looking for it. Maybe he wanted to see her pretty face again. He honestly didn’t know why he’d kept the damn thing, but she looked happy having it back, so he was glad he had. His fingers brushed hers as she took it, and he let them linger before pulling away this time. She had a soft touch, like a bird on a branch. It was nice.
“Are you done bein’ mad at me and avoidin’ me now?”
He picked up his hand and rubbed the edges between his fingers. “‘Cause first off, y’ain’t too good at it, and second, ahm tired of havin’ to think of you without gettin’ to see you.” Wait. Shit. What? |

That last bit caught her off guard and Kaylee only turned to stare at the tanned male sitting beside her. What? What had he just said? The smile on her face only widened and she let out a sigh as she leaned in a bit closer to him. She wanted to say so many things but she didn't know where to start.
"I...I like you Lily. But I just didn't know...I've never liked anyone before...and I was scared. What if you just thought I was weird or...or a freak or something? But around you I don't stutter...or feel scared. I feel...safe. I guess...I don't know I'm sorry for rambling like this..." Putting her feelings out on the line was a rare thing for the woman to do, and she looked at the floor while speaking so she could avoid eye contact with the male.
Because he could still reject her if he wanted to. It was all up to him now to decide. CODED BY DUCKIE OF GS

“ | @ @kat Girls talked too much. Lily wrinkled his nose and shifted a bit as Kaylee went on about how she felt. It was nice and all, he supposed, but emotional confessions weren't quite his scene. Never had been. So he kissed her again. Wrapping his hand carefully in her hair, he pulled her closer and slanted his mouth over hers. She tasted like the sun, warm and bright on his face.
“A simple "yes" would have sufficed,” he said when he pulled away, resting his forehead against hers.
Then he was frowning again. He slid his thumb against her cheek, careful and slow. She felt safe with him? Not for the first time, he wondered what was wrong with this girl. She belonged somewhere quiet and soft and safe--far away from him because safe was definitely not what he was. Fields of flowers and sun and rainbows. He didn't know how to treat a girl like her. “I like you too, but I ain't anything even close to a hero, Kaylee. You deserve someone...nicer than me."

She didn't even have time to react before Lily was pulling her into another kiss. When his hand wrapped in her hair she moved accordingly, sliding her fingers around his neck so she could angle herself up to meet his lips better. Once he pulled away she sucked in a deep gulp of air because she hadn't been prepared to kiss him before.
His words confused her and she paused, looking him in the eye. "You were the one who saved me from those guys back in that alley...and you kept my hair tie because you thought I might need it...Lily, how are you not the right person for me?" And as he placed his thumb across her cheek she smiled up at him, sliding her hands to rest on the male's chest. She could feel his heartbeat and she giggled at the feeling.

| @ @kat She had to stop touching him like that. Lily thought he was going to go insane with her hands sliding on his bare chest like that. For the first time since he'd been out if the Arizona sun, he felt warm. Breathing out a heavy sigh all at once, he reminded himself to breathe and tried not to lose his masculinity by trembling just because a little sweetheart like Kaylee was touching him.
"I...Ahm reckless, stubborn, pigheaded, I'm anythin' but gentle, I...,]/b]" he shoved his hat down over his face. “Look, darlin', I just...don't want to hurt you and I'm no good at this kinda thing. If you want me to stick around, then I'll do it for ya, and I'll do my damndest not to hurt ya, but I'm not perfect..."
If he was never her hero, he'd never let her down. He'd try not to, anyway. He made a promise, after all. Staying away from her would be just as much a challenge as not, and if she would be happy around him on her own...well hell. No way he'd take that smile away from her. B'sides, she'd probably go off and get in trouble if he didn't stick around to catch her. With a sigh, Lily wrapped Kaylee in his arms and sighed into her hair.

Pigheaded? No. Stubborn? Maybe. But Kaylee just laughed, waving off his words with a hand. "I don't care! I really don't!" And he pulled her into a hug, which only made her laugh louder. She had this weird feeling in her chest; a mixture of being scared and excited and nervous all at once. It felt as if her head was spinning from her happiness.
"And now I can keep you out of trouble too! Since you always say you're such a troublemaker..." She pulled away from him, only to poke his nose lightly. But before she could say anything else her stomach made a loud gurgling noise and she blushed at the sound, moving her hand to cover her torso.

| @ @kat "Nothin'? All day?" He didn't know whether he should laugh or frown, so he settled for just shaking his head. "S'pose we oughta find you somethin' then."
She actually wanted him around. This gal was a number of firsts, and he'd be damned if he didn't try to take care of her. Even if he had no idea what he was doing. Of course he did, though. Of course. Standing, he held out his hand to her and glanced around the hall. A few doors had opened, but they snapped shut the second his glare landed on the sliver of light peeping out between the doorframe and the door. It had taken him weeks to find this place. Like hell he knew where the vending machines were, much less the kitchen or how to get to any of the dining halls. Trying to go off campus would be even more of a mess. He knew where he was going, though. Why wouldn't he?
"What do you feel like?" he asked, looking down at her from under the rim of his hat.
