- some would call nikola quiet. it seems to be the most dominant trait of the young man's personality, in fact, and it's certainly not a false impression. on first meeting he comes off as a gentle, if somewhat shy person, and to be honest that really doesn't get much better the more you know him. obedient to the point of being passive, he's much more of a follower than a leader, and it's very rare that he'll offer opinions or even ask questions in a class setting, despite how keen he is to get an education at vireximus. and he really is desperate to make something of himself - he knows he's at least clever, so even if he doesn't discover a way to be useful with his rather tragic power set he'd like to get some academic merit from the university's courses.
- he's not exactly exciteable, but he could be described as nervous - loud noises or sudden aggressive movements are a surefire way to startle him, and actually standing in front of him and insulting or yelling at him will just result in him standing there quietly and taking it. confrontation and aggression are probably his least favourite things - he's sensitive and tends to feel personal attacks very keenly, and his introspective nature means he tends to dwell on them.
- of course, this does tend to make him a target, as well as his history, short stature and the fact he's just so easy to rag on. he's been labelled in the past as 'creepy' for his tendency towards meticulous neatness as well as often vaguely inappropriately threatening comments due to his, at times, overly blunt honesty - when asked why he doesn't 'fight back' he has before just described in detail exactly how toxic his venom is - and the fact that almost everyone at vireximus knows his moral compass is a little muddled. after all, when one has the upbringing nikola had...

- nikola is perhaps a little older than the rest of his class at vireximus, and the reason why is something he doesn't like to discuss. not that many people don't already know - nikola used to be a bad guy. as in, a bad guy. his mother tajana vrysk is also known as the supervillain/terrorist aspida, and before her capture, trial and incarceration when he was 16 served as her sidekick. he was seperately tried as a minor and sentenced to five years' incarceration for assisting her, with a condition of his release that he subsequently attend vireximus. his record in custody is exemplary - no behavioural problems, no violence towards others or even rudeness. the psychologist who evaluated him for the state announced that he had simply been assisting his mother out of filial piety. while still under probation while he attends vu, nobody expects nikola to be a problem - although many people who witnessed aspida's exploits probably aren't too happy her son is free to roam.
- as evidenced by his and his mother's names, nikola wasn't born in america - he is in fact from the former nation of yugoslavia, now known as serbia, and came to the US as a refugee during the kosovo war when he was eight. his unusual coloring is natural - he displays OCA2 albinism, and his different-coloured eyes result from related hypoplasia of his right iris. as such, he suffers from moderate visual problems usually corrected with contact lenses, and has something of an aversion to bright lights.

- PRIMARY POWER: web generation: nikola's abilities first manifested with the development of two small glands on the insides of his wrists, followed by tiny sets of spinnerets, and these matured over about six months to begin naturally producing a translucent fibrous protein - spider silk. the strands he produced are substantially thicker than you might find in a forgotten corner, and at the upper end reach about half a centimetre in diameter - these have proven strong enough to support hanging weights of about 200lbs comfortably, but nikola is convinced he can do better if he refines his technique. the silk itself is chemically identical to that found in nature, and suffers the same susceptibility to burning, as well as losing much of its elasticity when wet. it takes a fairly hefty amount of energy to produce much silk, and generally the activity of the glands is dictated by how much activity there has been in the prior days, so it's not terribly useful in a pinch situation unless he's been specifically preparing. he's often seen picking stray strands of web off his skin, and the silk glands are organs like any other that carry on working whether or not he particularly wants them to.
- SECONDARY POWER: venom secretion: this one is the one nikola would very much to get rid of. in keeping with his rather arachnid powers, nikola secretes a moderately potent venom. where it departs slightly is that he doesn't exactly have a poisonous bite. instead almost his entire body, barring his central nervous system, produces toxin similar to the steatoda grossa false widow spider, and the venom is present in almost all fluid: his saliva, blood, sweat, tears and yes, even urine. ingestion or fluid contact with the venom causes pain, fever and acute general malaise for a few days, but unless a lot of venom finds its way into someone the effects are not serious.
