Ten at night, the university pool was mostly vacant. Cerulean water threw ethereal tendrils of light up on the glass ceiling, transforming the cavernous room into a trance disco. No music or dubstep, but the steady slap of water on the pool tiles could seem percussion enough when accompanied by the occasional splash of some late night swimmer. Only a few persons were in attendance at this new wave night club. Most students were at real clubs or in their dorms studying. Most students didn’t go swimming this late at night. Most students weren’t Azazel Arice.
“I CAME IN LIKE A WREEECKING BAALLL!”
Footsteps slapped, quick and wet on the tiles, the sandpapery diving board. A hollow reverberation, a fountainous explosion of water. Then, silence. Buoyant water filled Azazel’s ears, washed out the noise. Slowly, he unfurled his arms and legs from their tight casing, breathing bubbles into the atmosphere as his body sank deeper into the abyss. Jet-black hair waved about his face like pieces of sky, bubble stars caught and sparkling in their arms.
His back touched the bottom. Golden eyes snapped open, and the jaguar bared his fangs in smirk. Warping his spine, he kicked forcefully at the tiles and broke the surface with a laugh. Another backward arch had him floating peacefully on the water’s surface, rocked about gently by the tide he had so recently created.
“I think I’m gonna like it here.”

| I'M TRYING TO HIT THE MARK but i'm shooting with broken arrows | @avarice MEH n/a | Tsubaki rubbed her head, everything starting to become silent as people started to go to sleep or buzz silently as they were thinking. She then moaned to herself and stretched out from her hunched position over her book. Looking outside at the cold world, Tsubaki sighed to herself. She should’ve stayed in California but she really wanted to see a different side of the states, and that she got. Leaning back in her chair she had gotten a bright idea. Moving around, careful not to wake her roommate, she packed a small bag and got into her winter gear, moving out of the door for one of the best inventions yet. The indoor pool.
She slipped into the woman’s restroom and changed into her swimming suit. Her feet padded silently for the pool area itself. Tsubaki was really expecting to be by herself, until she heard a large splash into the pool. She stopped for a moment, that was someone yelling before he hit the water. She continued on down to the large pool, a person floating on their back. She tilted her head to the side before straightening up and walked up to the pool side, sitting down and slipping into the pool.
Tsubaki dunked her head into the water, holding her breath, letting the rushing of water into her ears. Under water gave her the idea of what it must’ve been like without being in people’s head. A certain, haunting silence; she then rushed back up for air.

Mmm, now that smelled like a female. Azazel shut his eyes and inhaled again, tuning his ears to the softest pad of bare feet and the dip of a toe into the water. His skin positively rippled with sensation as rings of disturbance caressed his ribs. Oh, yes. That was definitely someone else in his pool now, and here he thought he’d gone and scared everyone away when he splashed in.
Ain’t a party t’il there’s a chick in the house, he thought, rolling over to tread water.
A dark seastar in his private little ocean, he could see her walnut hair waving in the current. By the time she surfaced, he’d situated himself just in front of her; her nose even brushed his chest as she came up gasping. He smiled at the tickle.
“Well hello to you too.”
Kind of a young one. Too bad.
“Correct me if I’m wrong, but most people don’t go swimming alone so late at night. Did you come out here just to keep me company?”
Fangs all put away, the smile on his face was benign, at least, and charming at best. . LAIKA OF GS!

| I'M TRYING TO HIT THE MARK but i'm shooting with broken arrows | @avarice Short post is short... n/a | Once the cold sensation of the pool passed, the warmth at the tip of her nose came around; another person was in front of her. Tsubaki took in a few shallow breaths and wiped her eyes but stopped when she heard his thought. She frowned slightly and opened her eyes, looking at the person.
“First off, that’s rude. I am eighteen not all that young.” She rested her hands on her hips, shaking her head. Her eyes went up to his face now; water slowly came down her bangs. Tsubaki then sighed, crossing her arms and looked away from the man that was just inches close to her. “Well, I didn’t know that anyone was out here.” She huffed out.
“I thought I would be able to spend time alone here at the pool. Since you know, it’s cold outside. Who would have thought of swimming late at night?” Tsubaki looked back up at the man, his mouth pulled back with a very toothy grin. “What’s with the smile?” She slowly raised a brow.

“Tch,” he clicked his tongue.“Is it a crime to smile?”
But wait. Had that girl just read his mind? The smile fell; his circling resembled a predator’s prowl. No, he was quite sure, he hadn’t called her young out loud. His brows drew closer together as he observed her from a distance. In a single motion, he swooped back in front of her and bent his head over hers for a better look.
“No, eighteen is legal for plenty of things, you’re right, but I can’t take you out to a bar for a party, so you aren’t all that mature, either,” he said, his smile returning at a slow pace.
Adults also ask permission before getting into someone else’s private space, too.
“Like their head.”
Azazel wasn’t quite one to talk about respect and personal space, but he was smiling again. Allowing space between them, he rolled to his back in the water and crossed his arms behind his head. His eyes focused on hers as he laid his head back, pupils narrowed into slits among irises that caught the water’s blue light and turned it a sulphorous yellow.
“That’s what you just did, right?”

| I'M TRYING TO HIT THE MARK but i'm shooting with broken arrows | @avarice Short post is short... n/a | “Pft, no.” Tsubaki quickly answered, “I was just curious.” She rolled her shoulders. Her eyes watched curiously as he started to pace in the water. Wait; could one pace in the water, how was that possible? But back to the situation, this person didn’t seem amused by her antics, cause if he was having them, then so would she. With that thought, the man was back in front of her, his face right in front of her. Tsubaki gave a slowly blink, wondering what he was going to do next.
She then looked down and back up; what did he mean she was legal for plenty of things? Taking her arms out of their crossed position and placed them once more on her hips, she closed her eyes and mutter, “Who would want to have fun at a bar.” But her eyes quickly opened up at what he had done. Not many people were quick to pick up that she was in their mind.
“Yeah, I was in your mind.” Her eyes flicked from the water back to him, seeing that space was going between them. Her eyes then narrowed slight, noticing the color of his eyes, she blinked a couple of times wondering what he was. Tsubaki’s eyes went back down to the water, holding back her answer for a short time. “Not my fault you’re like an open book.”

What an interesting little kitten he’d found himself. Bold, unperturbed by his closeness, a mind reader…it really was too bad she was too young for him. Not that he’d have kept her around for more than a night if she wasn’t, but he’d never been one for settling down and it was about time the female population learned this heartbreaker’s ways. It would make things much easier for him. Attachments were messy.
“See, you only say that because you’ve never been, kitten,” he said, and laughed. “Call me again when you’re twenty-one and we’ll see how fun or not you found your first bar binge.”
At her admittance, he smiled, and shut his eyes. “Every book is open when you don’t have to worry about the cover getting in the way. What number am I thinking of?”
Seven.
“Right there, the book opened itself. Earlier, I was under the assumption that my book was shut, and you just happen to have a power—a very interesting one, I might add—that lets you ignore that cute little privacy factor. Neat, huh?”
Azazel had ever been fascinated with humans and even more so the superhumans like himself. If humans had fantastic interconnections, then super humans must have super interconnections. This girl—he probably ought to ask her name at some point—was a prime example. Given her ability to completely break down the most intimate wall between a person and their environment or the people in it, she was an open and living connection to all creatures with cognitive abilities, and she probably didn’t even know it.

| I'M TRYING TO HIT THE MARK but i'm shooting with broken arrows | @avarice :3 n/a | She might have been a mind reader, but emotions on the other hand, where hard for her to read; she wasn’t always so focused on the present and what people were feeling then. His statement was true, then that would mean she would need to figure out a way to gain that experience; Tsubaki’s arms crossed and her eyes went distant for a moment. But her eyes refocused when she heard twenty-one, the magic number for many young adults. “Y-yeah?” She nervously asked, laughing. She was unsure how she would look or feel when under the influence of alcohol. “I guess that would be interesting.” Tsubaki then eyed the man; how old was he? Wait a minute what did he mean if the cover wasn’t shut? The number then flashed in her mind. She was about to say the number out loud, but he then made his point. A quick laughter then escaped her lips and it became louder. Tsubaki clenched her stomach and wiped her ere as if she was crying. “An interesting power? No, no, no; I bet if you hung around the College of Kinesis and ESP, there will be more experienced people then me.” She chuckled through her sentence. “Even though I’ve been working with my power, I’m still very far off. But the number was seven; you could be a little more creative than that.” Remembering back to working with her mother until she had decide to move to New York for college; school years were shorter time to work and her longer breaks where spent with both her mother and her twin as father moved around for his sponsor work, meeting up with heroes of all sorts, none that she ever got to meet. Tsubaki’s breathing started to normalize once more, her head tilted as she stared at the person; a cat-like smile crossed her face as she tilted her head to the other side. “I feel like if our relationship is moving this fast, we should introduce each other first. I’m Tsubaki.”

All the while she’d gone on about her prattling, Azazel had butterfly stroked his way to the pool’s edge. He planted his palms on the pool’s edge and, with a heave, hoisted his torso out of the water. Rivulets ran like crystals down the curves and crevices of his muscles. Minor scars crisscrossed his flesh, but he looked if anything better for the wear, each mark a reminder that he had been a victor, not a victim. Shaking his hair out of his face, he sent out a spray and turned to sit on the tiles.
“We have a relationship? But you haven’t even taken me to dinner yet,” he said with a low chuckle. “Azazel, AV, Cheshire…You can call me anything as long as you say it sexy.”
He winked, but if she had any inclination to again step into that dark cave of a mental space he had, she’d know he couldn’t be taking the flirting seriously. Even if she didn’t, he’d already said she was too young, and it would be all the more fun for the miscommunication. Lighting on her cat-like smile, his eyes shut and he spread his lips in his own Cheshire grin.
“I’m afraid I’m more of the…physical type rather than the higher-functioning mental type. Brains over brawn, brute strength, and all that.”

| I'M TRYING TO HIT THE MARK but i'm shooting with broken arrows | @avarice I'M SORRY IT'S SHORT AGAIN DDDX n/a | “Of course we do!” Tsubaki exclaimed, her cheeks puffed out, “We went from strangers to acquaintances at least. Sexy? No,” She shook a hand in front of her with a large smile across her face, “I’m not sexy. But those are interesting names to call you by.” Her hand slowly drifted to her chin in thought, attempting to ignore the comment he made and to keep herself mentally busy.
Tsubaki then slowly blinked at Azazel and tilted her head at his comment. “Yeah I can see that; muscles are not that bad, every group needs someone like that.” She blinked slowly, “You have quite a few scars on you.” Tsubaki let the water drift herself over to him, her eyes scanned over his torso as her arms waved out in the water. A sympathetic smile crossed her face before continued with her thoughts.
“Are there stories behind them?” She felt the bottom of her feet hit the concrete, slowly sliding back and forth thanks to the ripples she made herself. Unlike him, she was far away from the fights and such; it seems unlike him, she would hate to scar her body.

“Anyone’s sexy if they act like it. Take me for example.”
Arrogant sod, but he was still smiling. Opening his eyes to slits, he watched her watching him; he preferred to think of it as confidence, if your pride was placed in a fact, and considering her staring, it was. He inclined his head at her observation and stretched out an arm, flexing it. Under the low light of the moon, his scars glowed white and thin, little lines of silk drawn out across his skin.
“Depends on what you call a story. This,” he pointed to a bash at his elbow, “and plenty of these,” now gesturing at the rest of his torso, “I earned when I was a cub, playing around in zoo enclosures. Scraps with cousins and all that. Then there’s a few of these,” he said, indicating a smattering of star-burst like markings in various places, “where my adopted brother wasn’t too happy I took his stuff or hit on his sister. He even tried a shock collar once.”
A vague smile took on his lips at the familial memories, and he dropped his arm. He’d earned himself a number of scars else wise, running recklessly about the streets at night when he was hardly more than a kitten, but she didn’t need to know those. Yes, every scar told a story, but when you’d lived the plot a thousand times, what joy was there in telling it over again? He’d bore himself, if not her.
“I don’t regret a single one, though. What fun is life if you never learn your lesson the hard way?”
That is, if he ever really learned any lessons at all.

| I'M TRYING TO HIT THE MARK but i'm shooting with broken arrows | @avarice I'M SORRY IT'S SHORT AGAIN DDDX n/a | Yeah, he was right, if the person held up their persona, just like she did with her own perkiness, or in someone else’s opinion being an annoyance. She let herself float as the man in front of her started to flex his muscles, arrogance showing on his face, she herself raised an eyebrow, feeling a flush come over her face. Luckily for her, part of her face was under water as she watched AV.
At his last mention she let out a sigh through her nose before chuckling bringing herself up from the water. “Yeah well, those were stories. Short but they had meaning behind them for you to even share them.” She smirked and shrugged her shoulders. But he was something she could probably never becoming: a fighter.
After his statement, Tsubaki tilted her slightly and looked at the water in thought. “True, then the lesson doesn’t stick. That is if one allows it to, right?” Her dark eyes looked back up at AV and blinked a few times. She then sighed heavily, “Then again, with me, I’ve had to learn to focus or else not so much fun stuff happens.” Tsubaki chuckled. “But the thought of not having m telepathic powers,” A shiver came over her, “sounds nice but then I would not be where I am.” Once more her smile danced between being small or big.
