- Whether he was born a cat or a human, most of Azazel’s childhood was spent as a jaguar in the Central Park Zoo, the surrogate son of their only resident female. It wasn’t that he didn’t know he could be human, but by staying in the zoo, he had guaranteed shelter, food, health, care, and a family of sorts. So, by day, the young Azazel was content to laze about and doze in the zoo enclosure. From under sleep lids, he observed children and parents, lovers and sweethearts, and internalized lessons on human behavior. Unsatisfied with watching and not having so often, he began to sneak out of the zoo during his nocturnal hours, seeking human interaction and experience. Of course, he was then (and still can be now) a wild animal with an imperfect imagination of how human relationships might have been navigated. One night, he crept himself into a local home—and found himself discovered by the Fear family siblings: Zephyr, Eurus, and Adalie. Zephyr was delighted by the panther’s presence, and was even more excited after discovering that Azazel, too, was a superhuman; he immediately determined that the panther would stay.
For several weeks, Azazel left the zoo at closing to tag along with the siblings, often causing trouble with Zephyr. He was fascinated by them and the discovery that he was not alone in having strange powers, even if he took them for granted. When homework and other school-related activities began to steal their attention from him, he enlisted their help in enrolling at their high school, and thus chaos ensued in the form of the brotherly duo Zeph and A.V.. Azazel barely made graduation by the skin of his teeth, but he had been far more concerned with human interaction and having fun than he ever had been about learning. As if to illustrate that point, he headed straight from high school into a performing arts school and began to take up acting and bass guitar, finding that both attracted women and gave him considerable “swagger”. It was only a few years before he began to hunger for new places and new things, however. While lazing about in the common room one afternoon, Azazel awoke to a commotion over the television set and the current newsfeed: Vireximus University students and staff holding off what looked to be—no joke—a supervillain. And damn it all if those weren’t his favorite little siblings warring on the front lines. A languid grin spread on his lips, and the wild cat couldn’t help but laugh. Going nuts with his powers, wreaking havoc with Zeph, and getting national attention for it? Now this…this was something he could get into. It wasn’t long before he had his bags and his guitar packed.

- PANTHERA ANIMA: Azazel does not know if he was born a cat or a human, but for as long as he can remember, his body has been the juncture between the genome of a human and that of a melanistic Panthera onca (that is, a black jaguar, more commonly referred to as a “panther”). This genetic splicing functions much like a form of lycanthropy, allowing him to have both a human morphology and a form similar to that of a standard black jaguar, as well as intermediate forms. These intermediate forms usually manifest themselves in the appearance of a jaguar’s ears and tail on his human form, or the darkening, sharpening, and elongation of his forearms and nails into vicious replications of a jaguar’s forepaws.
In addition, even when his human form expresses no outward changes, Azazel has the keen smell, balance, night vision, and strength of an adult jaguar at all times. However, with the benefits also come various downsides: he prefers a slightly more nocturnal life style and is often quite sleepy and unfocused during the daytime; he is an obligate carnivore, and can only eat meat (his body cannot digest any other fibers without serious difficulty); to sustain a body his size, he requires 6kg or more of meat a day; and while his sensitive nose and ears may be a boon, they are also a definite weak point. Furthermore, like most members of the Felidae (or "feline") family, even this large cat has an inordinate fondness for Nepeta cataria: a.k.a. catnip. It acts as a sort of drug for him, inducing euphoria, drooling, sleepiness, anxiety, and various bouts of leaping about and purring. - UMBRA MOTUS: Latin for “shadow movement,” A.V.’s secondary power allows him to use shadows as a medium of transportation. It is unclear exactly how this works, but one theory is that shadows are thinly veiled doorways to an interconnecting “ether,” and that after entering this ether by one shadow, Azazel then exits it by another. Perhaps a less complicated analogy is that Umbra Motus functions much like teleportation that can occur only in the presence of shadows, shade, or darkness. This ability allows Azazel to move quickly, silently, and efficiently through networks of interconnected shadows, or through his own shadow into another at a visible distance. He cannot travel through non-adjacent shadows if he cannot first see them, and furthermore there must actually be some form of a shadow for him to pass through. His body must go into and eventually come out of the shadows as a whole (i.e. he cannot send only his leg off while the rest of his body stays), but when he exits a shadow,he does not have to do so head-first or all at once (i.e. he can reach his arm out without his head or body, pending that his body does eventually follow). Lastly, he cannot take living beings with him, but inanimate objects attached to his person, such as clothes he’s wearing or items he’s carrying, may come with him.
