Though at first she had been interested in the movie her roommate had rented--any excuse to ignore her homework for a while--when she had learned the title of the film was 'Faerie's Lullaby' Riley had sneered and returned to her work. With a name that ridiculous, the contents were sure to be equally stupid. However, despite her skepticism, she couldn't help but glance over at the television every once in a while.
By the middle of the movie Riley was completely engrossed, her textbook lying forgotten on her desk as she stared wide-eyed at the screen from her position in her chair. Far from being sunshine and rainbows like she had assumed, the movie was about a serial killer. And not just any serial killer, either. A ruthless, coldblooded, paranormal serial killer.
As the movie came to a terrifying finish, Riley released a breath she hadn't realized she had been holding. "That was..." She paused, allowing her heart to return to its normal pace. Then she turned back to her textbook with a snort. "The dumbest thing I've ever seen. Only an idiot would be afraid of that movie." With a grimace she continued her work, eager to get the bloody images out of her mind.
Several hours later found her finally closing her book with a yawn. Not long after the movie finished it had begun to rain, and now, well past midnight, the storm had intensified, the water pelting the window like bullets. Riley switched off the lamp on her desk, though she hesitated before making her way to her bed. Something didn't feel right...

it was dark. Adalie's eyes were wide with worry as she stared up at the white peeling ceiling just a few feet above her lofted bed. Blood would drip down from it, glittering, white and venomous. Just like it had in the movies. The girl let her fingers drag across the wall she was facing. The blood would drip and he would appear. And he would kill her and she would die and there was nothing she could do about it but just wait, helpless in the stormy night. Just like in the movies The light flicked off, as her roommate had finished reading and Adalie let out a barely audible, frightened and instinctive peep. She continued to stare at the wall as she listened to Riley begin shuffle her way to the bed. Her teeth gnawed against her lower lip as she wondered whether or not to say anything. Her roommate thought the move was stupid, which Adalie half-heartily agreed to, if only to save face. To go back on it... "Ummmmm" Her floaty, airy voice was quiet, she kept her face towards the wall in order to hide a blush of embarrassment. "you, you wouldn't m-mind keeping the light on would you?"RILEY TUFF

Riley had just reached her bed when her roommate spoke. "Huh?" Straightening up from pulling back her sheets, she glanced over at Adalie, but couldn't see anything more than her outline in the dark. "Why?" It took a few moments, but realization struck her, and a smile slowly spread across her face. "Heheh. You're not scared, are you? C'mon, Adalie, it was just a dumb movie--"
A roll of thunder cut across her words, partially drowning her out. A flash of lightning followed not long after, and Riley caught a glimpse of her roommate facing the wall-- along with a long shadow of something reaching out to grab her.
"What the f-- Adalie, watch out!" Riley yelped, scrambling to reach the light on her desk. She fumbled with the switch for a moment before managing to flip it on, snatching up her textbook and holding it over her head, ready to throw it at her roommate's attacker.
...only there was no one there. Riley stared at the place where the shadow had been, looking shaken. "I was sure I saw something," she muttered as the shadow's caster, an innocent spider, wandered past the window. Slowly, she lowered the textbook back onto the desk, still staring suspiciously at where she had seen the shadow.
"Maybe you're right. We should leave the light on..."

"I know, but-"A loud bolt of thunder caused adalie to jump forward, squealing and throwing her hands to her head as her roomate shouted "watch out!"By the time the lights were back on, Adalie had vanished, instinctively fled into the closest electronic object, Riley's cellphone. "I was sure, Riley's voice echoed as Adalie listened through the microphone. "I saw something," Oh, it was a false alarm? In a quick flash Adalie was back on her bed, hugging her knees. "Maybe you're right. We should leave the light on..."Adalie nodded as much as she could with her chin planted firmly on her kneecaps. "That would be good."RILEY TUFF
