olesya was livid.
still, she stood smiling and briefly wondered why her illegal base-jumping activity of the evening was going to be taken with a man she'd one or twice contemplated shoving off the same height years and years ago.
but instead of shoving olesya settled for lacing her fingers together and decided to think about the task at hand: sneaking up one of new york's taller buildings. a task unsurprisingly easily accomplished by a team of mostly supers, heroes and ex-heroes amongst them. two of her accomplices for the night had appeared on the same show as she a few years back and if there was anything that brought people together it was talking it was adrenaline-pumping stunts.
the more illegal of which olesya never been able to partake in until only recent. she should have been thrilled with the chance that night, with just a last flights of stairs in between her and base-jumping, but her thoughts would once again return to the one in the group she had to once again resolutely tell herself not to think about. but it nagged at her mind as something unprecedented, something she hadn't prepared for. security she had considered, police were likely too once this was all over, but ex-fiancé?
it was hard enough keeping the surprise off her face when she'd seen him there. following that, olesya had barely acknowledged him the whole staircase. determined to ignore him, the other two in the small group that had noticed in the group hadn't questioned it. as irritated with her lack of covertness she was the superhero community was thankfully full of situations that could create such a reaction. it seemed to be her cover enough in almost completely ignoring his presence. the quiet required for was another reason not to engage with him that she wholly embraced.
it was quiet disrupted though. only a few flights of stairs left olesya was disappointed to find all of them coming to a halt and speaking again. hand on a railing, she looked up mutely but attentively to whatever was developing. amongst the two ahead of her, a phone was going off – olesya wanted to frown knowing it could have been a warning from the one ex-hero who'd ended up on watch downstairs — and it warranted a stop from all the group.
olesya hid her disappoint when she heard that something could be wrong with their operation. when the other two added that they needed to check ahead, just them and just in case, and that left her with a situation she precisely did not want to be in that night.
she could be stuck with rudolf volkov alone.
still, smiling sweetly, olesya nodded at their explanation and agreed to it before the other even had the chance to object, even with the warning sirens going off in her head. intent on acting as if nothing more was wrong, she instead set herself to pulling a backpack off her back for a rest she watched them then head-up the stairs. she still didn't act conscious of the her ex-fiancé's presence, even as the tap of the others' shoes got fainted as they got higher. leaning against a railing, though, with the others out of sight and out of mind she finally felt like it was an adequate time to look at him.
and then she took her eyes off him. she instead looked behind her and down below at the gap between the stairs and the next and the long expanse they'd had to climb as part of their process.
“could you imagine falling from this height?” there was a slightly noticeable russian accent, a slightly peculiar rhythm and a delay between words. she gestured to the gap, “no parachute.” an olesya olesky ice-breaker: contemplating certain death.
“i would not have come if i had known you would be here.”
@rolf / uuum there you go dude B) on stairs in some building (idk completed uncompleted ) before base-jumping the group seems 2 be of five heroes/ex-heroes (including rudolf and olesya) hit me up if something's up

[attr="class","avviehovs"] WORDS ### TAGS OLESYA OLESKYNOTEShope this is okay~ | ❝ Base jumping was fun, the thrill, adrenaline and danger that accompanied it being more than any other extreme sport in Rolf's repertoire. Tonight's base jump had turned out to be more dangerous than most along with the additional factor of a sudden drop in temperature. The cause of both was one Olyesa Olesky who had decided to join in on the base jump. Because, in the end Rolf and his ex-fiancé had a rather large amount of unresolved issues to sort through, which had been left ignored and accumulating for over a dozen years now. It was hardly surprising that the atmosphere was awkward and thick enough to cut, plate and serve for five. Just the sort of thing to ruin a promising night’s fun as well as Rolf’s mood- with the professor sporting a small frown as proof of his displeasure. However it seemed Olesya was just the beginning of what tonight's disappointments would entail, with the group coming to a halt just short of their destination due to some sort of interference. The frown became more pronounced as the group split up to check ahead, leaving him Olesya alone to wait for the go ahead. Fantastic, now he was going to be left alone with her. Time for more awkwardness and tip toeing around the elephant in the room; just what the marriage counselor had ordered. A stiff drink after the whole ordeal in mind, Rudolf leaned against a handy wall and fiddled with the parachute flaps, looking anywhere but at Olesya. In the end it was her who broke the ice in a particularly ambiguous statement- almost threatening if you didn't know about the Olesya Olesky™ humor. “I’ve tried it before- it was one helluva ride.” He answered with a wolfish grin. It had been a good test of his propulsion abilities and gave him a cool scar by the thigh and an unbelievable story to boot. It was one of Rolf’s favorite memories. Naturally Olesya brought him straight back down to earth with her next statement, causing his frown to return as well. If she was going to regret it then why didn't just leave when she saw him? And now that she hadn't why was she bringing it up in the first place? “Well if I had known you were coming I would have still showed up.” Rolf replied “I was too bored to give this opportunity up.” “But really, if you’ve got an issue save it until later yeah? Don’t ruin the fun for everybody.” He added bluntly. |

“oh? will you go without parachute tonight then?” she laced her fingers in front of her lap again, looking at him expectantly as he returned to what she could only interpret as a boast. olesya was not appreciative of his attitude. disappointed was possibly a better descriptor. she wasn't quite sure how he wanted him to act. grovelling was far, far too much to ask of him and, frankly, bordering on a rather sociopathic demand if someone were to take her seriously. still, she kept up a small smile in return to his animalistic grin, “i shall look forward to it.”
“too bored?” olesya picked up on that rather quickly. while it was now evident rudolf hadn't been expecting to see her either – it'd been unlikely he would have, but it felt good that it was confirmed he was caught off-guard as well — his words caught her attention for other reasons, “you have nothing else to do at this time of night?” said cooly but it was very evident that olesya meant nothing warm when talking without anyone else around.
“retirement must not suit you. neither did heroing.”
if olesya felt livid before his later words only worsened her temperament. he was acting as if she was rude bringing it up then? “you prefer to stand in silence? droll.” as if exchanging barbed words was much better. she cast a look around, tilting her head to regard the stairwell, “as if there is someone here to ruin fun for. no-one i can see.” the footsteps of the other two had all but faded. she arched a brow, her voice still calm, “you say later. when is later?”
“when we reach the top? or after we both leap off the edge of this building?”

| ❝ Suddenly avoiding Olesya for all those years ceased being mildly guilt induced and instead looked more and more like the pinnacle of good sense and foresight. Really, the ex-fiance was not making this easier for Rudolf. And it was clear she was doing this on purpose too. "I might just go without a parachute today." Rolf answered dryly, no doubt him jumping off the building sans support was one of her dearest dreams "I suppose it depends on how desperate I am to get outta here." Her following comments caused the professor to raise an eyebrow and his temper to mount. Where did she get the right to criticize his life and his choices? In the end she'd decided to become a superhero as well- the hypocrite. "Get off your high horse will you?" he replied coldly "I'd got nothing to do this time of the night except sleep and nothing to do for the next week aside for teaching, so I decided to enjoy myself." As always, as his speech grew more heated, Rolf's Russian accent became more pronounced. "As for my heroing and my retirement, at least I was successful enough to play it and end it on my own terms." the 'unlike you' went unsaid, but definitely hinted. "As for whose fun you're ruining; look around Olesya!" Rolf said, saying his ex-fiance's name for the first time "You're ruining your own chance at a good night out, not to mention my own! You wanna talk? You had the past fifteen years or so- and you have all the time I'm free at the university!" Rolf disliked this argument with Olesya. In truth he knew that the lion's share of the blame probably lay on him, but the past years had made it clear that his ex-fiance was in no mood for talk, let alone grant any second chances. That said, he'd gotten over it and he was in no mood to deal with any of the issues she had dug up now of all times. "What's your whole problem anyway? What did I do or say to make you talk now?!" he was really talking a tad too loudly, but at this point Rolf was distinctly beyond the point of caring. |
