- there's not too much to say about hazel's family actually, hence she grew up under pretty common circumstances. her parents parted on good terms when hazel was already sixteen years old, she decided to stay with her dad since she assumed her younger brother would have a harder time without his mom than she would have and disliked the thought of rejecting her dad by leaving him alone. even though the other part of the family moved out of town, both adults want to make sure the children get to see their other parent more or less regularly. since her parents nor her brother are known to possess any superpowers, a certain event in hazels life must have triggered and released those profound forces.
when hazel was eighteen, she allowed herself to fulfill one early established life goal: a casino visit.
(oddly, she has developed a strong liking for any kind of gambling and betting during her early teenage years. the unpredictablity about it, did never fail to fascinate her.)
hazel won the jackpot on the slots. of course, she wasn't given the money she was promised. all she got was a shabby envelope carrying a bunch of banknotes and a rather unfriendly demand to leave as soon as possible and preferably not visit again in the near future.
she never told her dad or about it. she never told her dad about the other 6 times she tried to ruin other casino owners either.
the second time, she only wanted to prove herself that she was eerily lucky, yet ended up crushing everyone's hopes and dreams at the poker table. she had to make sure it wasn't only luck the third time. a forth time. a fifth time. she couldn't quit. she was blinded by the endless bliss.
by hiding her face behind different masks during every visit, she tried to keep her true identity a secret which provided the alias 'fortuna', the lucky winner. (the reason for keeping her true identity unknown was that she mostly visited 'underground' casinos, (basically saying) illegal ones which allowed minors to gamble and if the public would have found out about her and her actual age, she would have been doomed.)
soon enough hazel found out this wasn't the only worst case scenario to worry about. one night, she was assaulted on her way back home. incapable of opposing the man due to being physically inferior to him, she got dragged into a small by-road. heavily intoxicated, he demanded her to hand over the envelope with money she obtained earlier. the money wasn't even of relevance to her at this point since she was actually fearing for her life, but the moment his hands started pawing on her, roaming the pockets of her parka, she instinctively pushed him away. the instant her palm touched his rough skin, she could swear little sounds of sparks could be heard followed by a tingly feeling running through the veins of her hand. the girl only dared to open her eyes as the man's grip loosened up and the shaking ground beneath her feet implied his body fell to the ground. whether he was still breathing or not is a question she never got the answer to since she ran off right away.
things have gotten out of control and hazel was finally starting to become aware of the consequences that followed her previous actions and behaviour. she had no choice but to accept the fact her luck and whatever power emerged from her palm earlier was beyond normalcy. it was when she looked things up on the internet, that she found out about
VU. actually, she always kind of dissociated herself from and pretended to not care about this superhero topic people kept talking about but found herself in a situation in which it was inevitable to do so any longer.
she was utterly heartbroken about the fact she had to lie about the reason for moving to new york since she was worried about what her dad could possibly think of her.

[attr="class","appbold"]POWERS:
- hazel obtained her powers through a seemingly common and unspectacular event. ever since being a little child she was prone to receiving harmless electro shocks by touching the handrail of escalators in malls for example. she got her first severe shock while her dad and she were moving out of their old house, planning to live in a smaller apartment from now on.
being her careless self, she came in contact with a broken wire and was hit immediately. it was no ordinary shock and of rather high intensity, thinking back of it she actually felt a sensation rushing through the veins of her entire left arm, which left faint marks of stingy redness. it didn’t hurt at all to her surprise, yet worried her enough to visit a doctor who was the first person to call her a ‘really lucky girl’ for getting away with only such harmless light burns. - ELECTROGENESIS: allows her to generate and produce electricity due to an increased amount of charged particles in her blood. (un)fortunately, she’s only able to transmit electro shockwaves to another object or person with a direct touch. the intensity of those shockwaves is in fact capable of being influenced, hazel herself has not mastered this skill /yet/.
generally, her electrogenesis power can reach up to a voltage of 200.000 which allows it to easily pervade clothing and other fabrics, however it implies that her power is mostly focused on harming people relatively close to her. with it’s maximum of 150mA it is capable of adding extreme pain and muscular contraction to a person, leading to some sort of paralysis.
to put it in a nutshell, this power makes her a living taser except she’s able to cause much more pain, nevertheless nobody can be killed only due to her shocks.
LUCK: hazel is gifted with an automatic infinite supply of luckiness, however it's effects are rather passive than active. it mainly affects her intuitive reactions and actions, causing her tendency to make the right choice in delicate situations. (if you had to cut one out of five wires in order to disarm a ticking bomb; i’d let her choose.)
of course she's not excluded from the occasional luck which befalls even "ordinary" people once in a while, she will possibly benefit from it more frequently than others.
"to a brave man, good and bad luck are like his left and right hand. he uses both." of course both sides need to maintain balance, while hazel mostly enjoys the privilege of being "the one out of many", it's sometimes more of a curse than a blessing though. so she often finds herself in rather uncomfortable situations as well, however, the perk of being incredibly lucky is that you almost always find a way out of these. good luck is always followed by bad one sooner or later, making her life an endless chain of ups and downs. thus it’d be a bad decision to rely on her luck too much; overconfidence often leads to defeat.
on the other hand, what her power can't do is to influence her surroundings, other people's feelings, behaviour and of course powers are invioable to hers.
